Present Simple and Present Continuous

 Present Simple 

1. We use the present simple to describe:

  • Routines and habits
I get up at seven o'clock

He listens to music every day 

  • Situation that stay the same for a long time
He doesn't work 

They live with their parents 


2. We can use adverbs with the present simple 

I always / sometimes / rarely / never write letters to my girlfriend 

(Adverbs are placed before the verb and after the subject)


3. To conjugate the present simple in affirmative, we use the infinitive for the subjects “I”, “you”, “we” and “they” and for the third persons “he”, “she” and “it”, we add an “-s” to the end of the verb.

4. The third person singular in the simple present affirmative always ends in –s, but there are some rules:

Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (do/does) y negación (not) + adverbio + verbo + complemento 
He doesn't normally take a shower on Fridays 
  • Questions Sentences 
Verbo auxiliar (Do/Does) + sujeto + verbo principal + complemento
Does she go to the University last week?
  • Questions Sentences 
Verbo auxiliar (Do/Does) + sujeto + adverbio + verbo + completo?
Do you usually go to the bathroom three times a day?
